Jesus is Love
Love is a word which is commonly said between people who are attracted to each other.
Love is a word used to describe an affection between people and even objects.
Love is a common word in society and pretty much everyone is aware of its meaning.
There is a definition of Love which isn’t as commonly known and talked about and that is the love of God. Jesus Christ, according to the Bible, is the Son of God and God the Father sent Jesus, His only Son, to the Earth roughly 2000 years ago.
What you may ask does this have to do with Love?
““For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16 ESV
God the father gave Jesus to the people of this planet so that we may believe in his message and therefore not perish or die because we believed. I’m sure you know what happened to Jesus as it is probably the most well known series of events the world has ever known.
Jesus was betrayed by people he came to save and was beaten, mocked and eventually hung on a cross to die, a place reserved for the worst criminals and yet he did nothing to warrant this death.
God the Father gave His only Son, Jesus to literally die on a cross.
Why?
The ultimate expression of Love is why.
God desperately wants a relationship with the people of this world and we can see this cry of God all throughout the Bible. Time and time again the word of God describes a loving God trying to save his people, his chosen people to believe in him and turn from their evil ways but mankind is determined to live life their own way.
Gods love is so great and unmeasurable that he sent his son to die in the place of the people who are deserving of death. You see, sin, which is disobeying God and his commandments or rules carries a penalty and that is separation from God. Once you die and you are separated from God you are cast into Hell forever as sin cannot enter into heaven.
Please focus on the act of God at this time, He sent his son to die so that you don’t have to. None of us can handle the penalty of sin in hell because Hell was created for the devil and his demons. They rebelled against God and tried to overthrow heaven and rule in his place.
The love of God is amazing.
The love of God is communicated through his word, the Bible.
“he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit,” Titus 3:5 NIV
See the word of God from Genesis to Revelation, the whole bible, you will see a continuous theme of love for the people he created.
He was born into poverty.
He was hunted down before he was even born.
He was utterly dismissed and rejected by the people he came to save.
He was beaten so badly you couldn’t recognise him.
He was whipped so that his flesh was torn off.
He was punched and spat on and people turned their faces away from him such was his shame. Eventually after all this humiliation he was hung on the cross and he died next to two thieves.
Who do you know that would go through this for you?
Who do we know that has ever laid his life down for people who hated and despised them?
People who go to war in defence of their country are often regarded with honour as they have laid down their lives for a cause from an aggressor. They are given medals and promotions we honour them every year with remembrances and parades. We give fallen ‘heroes’ a minutes silence in honour for their sacrifice. This is of course the right thing to do, after all we all owe our freedom due to the lives laid down in times of war.
But what about Jesus? What honour do we give him?
We use his name as an alternative to a swear word. We say his name when something bad happens, which should be a swear word or an expletive but we instead use the name of the GOD who laid his life down so that through simple faith we would be set free from sin.
There is appointed for man to die once and then the judgement and then … the 2nd death which is hell and the lake of fire reserved for the devil and his demon angels.
Are you telling me that you’re the same as the devil?
Maybe you are … ?
Do you hate and despise God that much that you’re willing to go to hell for all eternity?
Most would answer no, I don’t HATE God. But do you love him?
You don’t love him because you don’t know him.
If you knew the love of God you would dedicate your entire life, energy and time to knowing him more.
He died on that cross roughly 2000 years ago so that you could be set free from the curses of sin and meet with him and ‘fellowship’ with him.
Most people live their lives as if God means nothing to them and this isn’t a judgement its what the Bible teaches about the people of these days.
“But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God— having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with such people. They are the kind who worm their way into homes and gain control over gullible women, who are loaded down with sins and are swayed by all kinds of evil desires, always learning but never able to come to a knowledge of the truth.” 2 Timothy 3:1-7 NIV
“The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons.” 1 Timothy 4:1 NIV
Above all, you must understand that in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and following their own evil desires. They will say, “Where is this ‘coming’ he promised? Ever since our ancestors died, everything goes on as it has since the beginning of creation.” 5 But they deliberately forget that long ago by God’s word the heavens came into being and the earth was formed out of water and by water. By these waters also the world of that time was deluged and destroyed. By the same word the present heavens and earth are reserved for fire, being kept for the day of judgment and destruction of the ungodly. 2 Peter 3:3-7 NIV
You walk through life completely unaware of the storm that is coming to your soul that you cannot escape without Gods help.
You may cry out that this is unfair and that if God was love he wouldn’t do it but the escape route is clearly visible and has been mentioned to you your whole life and even in this video.
Jesus died so that you could be saved and washed clean of your sin, not because you deserve it but because of his love.
Jesus is love.
Jesus will wash you clean of your sin and make you into a new creation, spotless and unblemished. A brand new, fresh out of the box creation with not a hint of sin or evil, like a child in innocence and pure of thought. Clean and pure.
That’s love.
Jesus is love.
Pray this prayer: ‘Lord God, please forgive me of my sins that I have committed against you, I’m sorry for ignoring you my whole life to this point, but today I believe in Jesus, that he died on the cross to wash my sins away, that he rose from the grave after 3 days and He is now seated at the right hand of you, my Father in Heaven. I believe Jesus is my saviour and I accept him into my life now. I know I was wrong and I will change my ways with your help, in Jesus name, amen.
